Marking long, straight reference lines on decking, floors, or platforms — laying out truss footprints, staging grid lines, and cable runs before load-in begins. Stretch the chalked string taut, snap it, and it leaves a straight powder line.
Trade note
The reel holds string coated in loose colored chalk powder (usually blue, red, or white). Blue chalk washes out easily and is the default for temporary layout; red and permanent chalks stain and are avoided on rented or scenic floors.
