OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502 and ANSI Z359 govern fall protection harnesses. A dorsal D-ring (at the upper back) is required for fall arrest; a front chest D-ring is used for positioning. Harnesses must be inspected before every use — stitching cuts, hardware deformation, or chemical exposure can compromise the harness.
