Tie line is traditionally 1/8" to 3/16" cotton or polyester cord. "Sash cord" comes from its original use in counterweight-balanced window frames (sash windows). On a theater rig, tie line bundles cable in the grid; on an outdoor show, it secures soft goods, banners, and pipe-and-drape.
